Another addition to my (slowly) growing Thematic Byzantine army. This time the famous/infamous Varangian Guard.

For many more pictures and the usual discursive meanderings p-lease feel free to pop over to my Just Add Water Blog here:

As I say, you will find many more pictures including those of the individual bases- and some nice hem decor
! ;)

I noticed that all the shield armed models came open handed and with four poses available I wanted to have as much variation as possible. I chose to clip off some of the right hands and replace with different weapons as seen below:

Pics from more or less front on:

And from a slightly higher angle:

A couple of close ups/single bases:

Cheers

That'll make those Bulgars think again about invading the righteous realms of the Byzantines! Great work – thanks for sharing

Made my day when I got home from work. Great job! Can't wait to see the whole army.

Magnificent! I thought they were armed universally with 2-handed axes, but I suppose that's a case of 'we don't know for sure'.

I refuse to tell you how utterly amazing those are unless you commit to paint a bunch of minis for me…I mean, a BUNCH!

Thanks to all for your kindness and commentary.

That'll make those Bulgars think again about invading the righteous realms of the Byzantines!

Does anyone know of any tip top manufacturers who make Bulgar's? I could get away with "generic" horse archers but I would definitely need to have the Nobles- look like *Bulgar* nobles.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated guys.

Cheers Simon- he's the focal point of the unit so it's great to hear he stands out

Now that I can help you with Oldbob. I put together a basing article on my blog a while ago:

Hope that helps?
