"Alien 240 NM Linear Error" Topic

Probably no one cares but the Aliens, but in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the aliens transmit earth coordinates
104 44 30 40 36 10 which presumably are the coordinates of Devils Tower Wyoming using North and West. Unfortunately for Spielberg, these coordinates locate a rural area east of Ft. Collins, Colorado.

The Devils Tower is located approximately 240 Nautical Miles north at roughly 104 44 30 44 36 10. What a surprise for the humans if the Aliens arrived at the coordinates they actually provided.

I doubt anyone much cares, but I thought I'd share it in case any game information needs updating.

Google Maps shows the coordinates as in a field with furrows near some farm buildings. Plenty of space to land that huge ship, though. I'm thinking the aliens moved to Devil's Tower at the request of the federal government, who didn't want too many random people showing up with cameras.

Sol Lic, you could be right, but instead of hiring Balaban as an alleged cartographer, he should have hired a genuine cartographer. Also aliens who don't smile as they insert the probe.
