I'm guessing the writer of this never seen the anime Legend of the Galactic Heroes of the Free Planets Alliance's failed invasion of the Empire. The battles took place simultaneously in a number of different star systems only to end in the Battle at the Amlitzer star system.

I gotta give it to "Wrath of Khan," for best battle scenes. In the first one, you could almost smell the panic; in the second, the constant tension of the two sides trying to outmaneuver each other in crappy conditions had a low-speed dogfight-type tension. Amazing, without CGI.
