Hi When crossing obstacles the main rules say – "Units moving through rough ground or across obstacles suffer 1 DMZ (DMZ = Disorganisation) and reduce their speed by half, unless in Skirmish". However in the "Victory or Death" scenario book, in all of the scenarios where fence lines are shown, it says (with the exception of the Bunker Hill scenario, see below) – "fence lines cost 1 DMZ to cross and provide a defender the "minor obstacle" bonus". There is no mention of reducing speed by half. In the Bunker Hill scenario it says "The fences do not reduce movement, but do cost 1 DMZ to cross and provide a defender the "minor obstacle" bonus in melee". So I'm a bit confused as to whether units should reduce their speed by half when crossing fences in all the scenarios except for the Bunker Hill scenario. Any thoughts appreciated (and apologies for being pedantic)! Cheers Paul |

Modify it – we play if two die: – two inches off die roll to cross an obstacle – or if three die lowest die roll is negated from move. No other penalties. Nice and simple. |

Hi Thanks for the replies. I appreciate that I can change anything I want in the rules; I was just trying to get some clarification on what the author's intentions were. Cheers Paul |

IIRC all of the LFOD scenarios specify that crossing a fence results in 1 DMZ, but does not reduce movement. I could be wrong, but I am left with the impression that the game designers intended that crossing a simple fence is an exception to the general rule concerning crossing obstacles. Accordingly, we follow this exception rule in all our games, unless there is some reason to alter it for a particular scenario. Keep in mind that dealing with fences is easily handled by scenario specific rules. Just my 2 cents. |

Sounds like a very complicated set of rules – I will take rules on the front and back of one 8 x 11 sheet of paper anyday. |

The Rules are a few pages. They were created by Andy Callan many years ago and revised by Little Wars Tv. They are anything but complicated. Thanks John |

Hi As John said they are only a few pages, four, in fact. Which is possibly the problem regarding some lack of clarity. I just like to know what the author(s) intended when there is a bit of ambiguity, then I can make my own mind up as to the way to go. Cheers Paul |

If it's a fence and not a stone wall, go with the 1 DMZ, as (and I assume this happened in real life) the front ranks could just take/knock down the fence, and everybody else would have an easy walk… ;-) |
