I have been searching the web for shield decals/transfers for the Kings of War Elves I bought. I've been finding lots for historicals, and a few references to some actually made for (by?) Manic, though I'm not sure they're still being made, and in anycase I'm not thrilled with them, as they are a blue theme.

I'd appreciate any help/suggestions! Is it possible to design your own?

Thanks!

I printed my own designs, on white paper. You can print them on label paper, cut to size, and apply. However, you need to use a laser printer: the "decals" need to be sealed, with either Mod Podge, or a clear coat brushed/sprayed onto them, to seal them in place.

I did this for my 28mm Hobgoblin Army (the Skull Breakers). I also did this with my 60mm Viking figures painted up as Frost Giants.

It is possible to use permanent markers to draw symbols onto the miniature's cast shield, but you will need to draw each one, individually. Sealing them can be a challenge, as many sealants will dissolve the ink.

I'm an army painter, aiming for GEtGW quality, so YMMV. Cheers!

Try Veni Vidi Vici decals.

Mirosav and Sgt Slag,

Thanks for the responses. Mirosav, I've looked on Veni Vidi Vici, they didn't have anything that fit my needs. Much more historical, and IIRC what fantasy they did have seemed historically based, and mostly for humans & dwarves.

Sgt Slag, I do have a laser printer. Do you think printing on label paper is better than printing on actual water-based transfer "paper" (which apparently exists, though of course my local Office Depot didn't have any in stock)? It does appear to be a little pricey…

Is it superior? No. Not even equal. LOL! It is just convenient, easy, and affordable. I paint/decorate my minis for arm's length viewing. I'm an army painter. If you can accept the quality shown in my examples, go for it.

Honestly, give it a try on a test figure. Only way to know if it works for you. Cheers!

Hi Codiver

If you think the VVV decals might be worth a second look, we (Wild Fabrum) now carry them for US customers.

J G Taylor the designer has done a lot with adding paint on the designs after decals which can certainly dress them up for more fantastic purposes.
