"American military leaders increasingly speak of China taking offensive action against Taiwan. That's not going to happen. The Ukraine War demonstrated the importance of motivation and morale. The Taiwanese identify with the Ukrainians while the Chinese note that they, like Russia, are basically police state dictatorships while Ukraine and Taiwan are democracies that are highly motivated to innovate and fight to preserve their way of life. China would also suffer much more than Russia from any economic problems an attack on Taiwan would lead to.
China, like Russia, has internal economic and population problems. China's working age population is shrinking and that is having an impact on the military because not enough Chinese are willing to serve. Its economic problems were amplified by recent large-scale covid19 related shutdowns. This triggered widespread open public resistance. The government backed down, unwilling to literally go to war with its people over this. Chinese leaders were then obsessed with there being no covid19 infections at all in China and so imposed the shutdowns. Most Chinese, however, paid attention to what was happening in the rest of the world, concluded that some infections and deaths were preferable to the shutdowns, and took to the streets to coerce the government into shutting down the shutdowns. The breadth and depth of their protests was unprecedented in the history of Communist China, and so threatened the power of the Chinese Communist Party that it submitted to public demands. This set a dangerous precedent for the future…"

Saw the number of Chinese coming across the Southern Border has significantly risen. I'm betting some spies are in those groups. Of course, they may just sneak a cross, like so many other illegal aliens. The CBP, LEOs, etc. have only an estimate of about how many "got aways" there really are. |

Yes, that is true … but the number compared to China's total population is small of course. At this point maybe only a few hundred so far. But as I said it is increasing significantly from the past. There about 140 countries having people crossing the border. Many from 3d World, failed or failing states or even Europe. E.g. Ukrainians, Russians, Rumanians, etc. But many are from Central & South America, or even Cuba, Haiti, etc. Plus Africa, the Mid East, A'stan, Iran, etc. Estimates are somewhere around 4-5 million according to the Border Patrol, etc. have crossed the border. Mostly from the South. However, even a few from Canada. That is in basically just over a 2 year period. It really is a crisis … 90% don't even qualify for asylum. |

If it does it may change some things. However, no matter the equipment the Russian military is still 2d rate. The PRC AFVs etc. will be targets like all the other Russian AFVs, etc. There may just be more of them. But again, the US, NATO, etc. has to get the Ukraine the weapons they need ASAP ! |

Not just me, but many others, who outranked me, etc. … China could do a lot of damage with a blockage. They are building a lot of ships which with those growing numbers certainly could do a blockade AFAIK. Cutting all trade, etc., going into or out of Taiwan. The question is how long it will take for them to collapse and become part of the PRC/CCP again. I'd think many of the Taiwan's leaders etc. probably won't be very treated well. E.g. Hong Kong. Will the US and our Allies in that region break/run the blockage ? Shots could be exchanges, blood spilled, etc. Then will it escalate ? |

Xi is trying to replace the US not only economically, militarily but diplomatically. They brokered a "peace" deal between arch enemies the KSA & Iran. Probably the Prince of Saudia Arabia didn't like the US leadership calling him a murder, even if he was. Realpolitik … some need to look up what that means. Especially since the US was made no longer energy independent. 'nuff said on that … we know how that happened. IIRC, Xi is going to the Ukraine to talk to Zelensky soon. Hmmm … Whose next ? Will Xi visit Canada or Mexico ? |

No, no surprise. But they need real soldiers who are well trained, and tactical doctrine that goes beyond artillery shelling. Look at how the recent big tank battle went for them. After a year they still drive down a road, no combined alarms, start to get picked off, turn off the road into prepared mine fields and fields of fire. Sending these guys tanks just means the world will end up with fewer tanks, based on their performance s far. |
