Just got the email stating there a little short on games for Cold Wars. Get the word out to your members. This is a great opportunity for someone that has never run a game to give it a try. Advice do a game that the rules are convention friendly. I personally love doing bolt action.

Is this because this is at King of Prussia? A reason for the decline or something else?

evbates02 Feb 2023 6:49 p.m. PST

My groups not going because of the location, so that's 6 to 8 games they are losing out on.

I would imagine a lot of it has to do with the fact that there hasn't been a winter convention in 3 years now

Also, it would be helpful to know what time slots they're light on, I'm running a game 6-10 Saturday night but I could easily do something like What a Tanker Friday afternoon to help out.

5 weeks out and they've got just 31 confirmed vendors.

I'm going and running 3 games. But don't like the location at all. HMGS needs to find a different location.

Ed your losing out because you won't be seeing me…..

Just remember guys the thread was only an attempt to help the MEMBERSHIP…

But people were willing to tolerate the decrepit Host for years even as it feel apart around them. What is the issue?

If there was a site that was head and shoulders better than any of the other alternatives, we'd have settled down there like an Alabama tick long ago.

Valley Forge has 2 strikes against it. First, it's further northeast than Lancaster which makes it less attractive to would be attendees from the south and west.

Second, the site layout involves a not inconsiderable hike between the area devoted to the vendor hall, tourneys and Wally's basement, and the area devoted to gaming.

On the plus side, it 1) isn't decrepit, 2) has a gaming area that is better lit and less prone to noise issues than any of the others, and 3) will have us.

One plus for the KoP site is you can fly in to Philly and cab it to the hotel.

@Extra

Of course, I'm sure if I were to fly to a con, THAT would be the one where I bought a whole game, terrain and all, and had to figure out how to get it home.

Back at 9/11 the husband of a coworker had flown from Baltimore to Denver on a sales trip. No flights back. All busses and trains packed. All limos booked. His company authorized him to buy a used car so he could drive home.

Necessity is a muther.

Lard America will not be there running TFL games. Some people decided to pass because of the location among other reasons. I decided not to run a game independently and will likely only go for a day. Not necessarily due to the location just other commitments.

Already planning for and looking forward to Historicon.

VFC is about 45 minutes nearly due East from the Host. If thats enough to be a strike, then there's just no helping it. May as well just forget about finding other locations for the convention.

The real criticism of the location is the layout, which is a valid concern. Easier to walk around the path around the outside of the building, its less than half the distance of walking inside to get from the gaming area to the vendor/flea/tournament area.

Still easier as a GM to load and unload and get into the preferred gaming room than downtown Lancaster.

That aside, I'm open to requests for games on Friday morning/afternoon to add another option for people. What a Tanker, BFG, Ronin, Dragon/Lion Rampant, etc

epturner03 Feb 2023 6:49 p.m. PST

I'm going. I'm running two games.

It's three miles from my house, so how could I not go.

I'd run more, but I have to work Friday during the day.

Rusty, you BETTER go! You can find a mic and do your thing that you did at the Legion. Get Little Wars TV to film you.

Eric I'll be there…Thursday to Sunday. Running Bolt Action.

Grumble8710604 Feb 2023 4:52 p.m. PST

The only reason I'm not going, not running at least one game, and not volunteering is that I'm going to be in New Mexico that week (and several other weeks on both sides of those dates). Neither the location, nor the venue, nor the layout, nor the food quality, nor the fact that it's the first winter convention since 2020, are factors in my non-attendance. Just a calendar conflict.
