Today I started the publication of this series containing 150 plates in total on the "uniform portal" of Napoleon Online: link

Although the series had been published by Alfred de Marbot in the 1860s it is a good source for the study of the uniforms for the revolutionary and napoleonic wars.

The first plates cover the period of 1789 to 1793 … more to come.

Thanks for your kind comments … today I finished the "revolutionary period" and published the plates ranging until 1804.

German friends found the detail in the famous memoirs of Marcelin Marbot that his son Alfred was born in 1812 – and the live dates of Alfred de Marbot are given 1812 to 1865 … so he was at least a bit of contemporary person :-)

Thank you very much Markus. I look forward to the additions.

Fab plates. Thank you.

Is Alfred related to Barton Marbot of the Napoleonic memoir?

@Sir Able Brush: yes, Alfred de Marbot is probably the son of the (later Baron) Marcelin Marbot. In his memoirs he wrote about the birth of his son Alfred in 1812.

Today I published all plates until 1806, many of them covering the early imperial uniforms of the guard – the series is still available at link

Additionally I added the texts which Marbot delivered to the plates, many of them have interesting facts of the organizational history – you may download the PDF file with the French text at: PDF link

At least I finished the complete series and published the plates relating to 1806 until 1815. But again, please be aware that this series is not contemporary, if discussing uniform details.

You find the series plus the accompanying text at link

Many thanks Markus,

The quality of your images are certainly much better than those I have seen elsewhere (including on a couple of museum sites).
All the best

Ian
