They stopped making them but they are not out to pasture. I don't remember ever flying in one.

I suspect they'll be around for some time. They are valuable, repairable, maintainable, upgradeable, they're not going anywhere.

I think you should add "except around the world to every major airport" after "anywhere".

I flew with BA from San Fran to London Heathrow back in 2011 in a 747. It was a bit shoddy.

I flew in a Pan-Am 747 when I was in the service going home on leave. Out over the Pacific one of the engines caught fire. So we had to make an emergency landing in Guam. The Airline put me up at the Hilton (Who knew Guam had a Hilton?) for three days.

When we took off the Flight Attendant announced that there would be an open bar all the way to Hawaii. Three sailors on board and open bar!
