Our dear editor has given us permission to post this appeal. Hello all. The link below will enable you to donate to an account on Gofundme.com for Christy Brom. This is to help financially after the sudden death of her sister Lori Brom. Christy's parents Larry and Sarah Brom died some time ago. Jay Stribling, a fellow wargamer, is the manager of the account and will receive no funds as part of this.link Gofundme takes 2.9% of each donation as "their cut". The other 97.1% will be given to Christy Brom. NOTICE: Please note that donors need to be careful at checkout on the Gofundme page. Gofundme has an "optional" tip amount already set of 15% that will be charged it the donor does not cancel or adjust this amount. This does not come out of the donated amount but is an extra percentage – which is kept by Gofundme. Thank you so much for your support. Jim |

I figured a funding campaign would pop up soon so, thanks for posting. Out of curiosity, is she aware of the campaign? Automatic tipping? Seriously? More like, "we hope you don't notice that we are stealing your money." Thanks for the heads-up on looking for and canceling that feature. |

To my (limited) knowledge, Christy has no income from this point on and deserves as much help via this opportunity as we can afford. Going there myself now, TVAG |

Done, donation given. Christy doesn't work? |

Jay & Jim, what a great idea! I will definitely donate and assist by spreading the word locally and globally. Thank you gentlemen. JB |

Christy doesn't work? I did have similar thoughts. By all means donate if you are moved to do so; but as the saying goes: enquiring minds want to know. Especially where money is involved. Christy appears to be a competent adult and presumably able to work. She is the sister of Lori so commingled finances should be minimal and Lori's debts should stay with the estate. Maybe it has something to do with TSaTF property, I don't know. |

Anyone care to share the story? Who are the Broms and why does Christy need money? |

Shardik, the Brom family (Larry, Sara, Lori and Christy) has been on Wargaming for at least the past 55 years that I have known them. Larry (Dad, passed a few years ago) has about 28 sets of rules to his credit, including the popular 'The Sword and the Flame' Colonial rules but encompassing eras from Ancients to Korea. These rules are available still on Sergeants 3 the website. Long story short, Sara (mother to lori and Christy) passed in 2002, a victim of Creutzfeldt-Jakobs disease (more commonly called the human version of 'madcow')' This devastated the family's finances. Larry's passing exacerbated this. Prior to her recent passing Lori was working and using the website to help with finances and to pay outstanding debts. Christy is indeed capable of working and has for years advocated for victims of KJ disease. Christy maintains the CJD Aware website which is her full-time job (no compensation). Anyone can visit the website and see what it involves, which includes providing an information resource to those afflicted, their loved ones and associates and support to those lobbying legislative bodies to improve funding for research and treatment. You'll pardon the length, but the story needs telling and, Mr. Elmo, I hope you read it as well. |

I think the backstory will help people decide what to do, but I believe I found the crux of the problem Christy maintains the CJD Aware website which is her full-time job (no compensation). You really should only volunteer as a side hustle because it really isn't "a job" otherwise. Once your charity can start paying you a salary you're good to go. I don't see how the family had debts the Larry/Sara estate would have ended in bankruptcy. I know children sometimes feel honor bound to pay those debts but they are not yours. When Mother Elmo passed I had the joy to tell her she was going to run out of money in about 7 months. At no point did I think of using our money or expect any inheritance. |

Mr. Elmo – bankruptcy, according to my attorney, does not automatically relieve survivors from debt due to parents' medical expenses prior to passing. If you have other, and opposite, valid information, please provide. In my own experience, both Mom and Dad passed without much in the way of 'final expenses' (except funerary) so, except for attorney's info, I' ve no clue. |
