"On May 9, Ukraine celebrated Victory over Nazism Day in World War II. The day before, the world marked the end of hostilities in Europe. Today Russian propaganda is going the extra mile to amplify myths about the Second World War, trying to present the war with Ukraine as a course for "denazification" of the country. A few weeks ago, on April 13, the Russian Federation Council, following the State Duma, even approved a bill that imposes fines on those who dare to equate the goals, decisions, and actions of two totalitarian regimes — the Soviet leadership and Nazi Germany and its allies during World War II (as well as the actions of the command and military of these countries)…" Main page

I'm actually encouraged (admittedly in odd way) by this and even far more fanciful flights into the realm of fantasy that the Russians are making. Any enemy who believes it's own lies must inevitably fall before immutable truths. Remember, the mark of liar is that his story keeps changing. The truth, when told, needs no amendment or amplification. TVAG |

It is Ukrainian propaganda and no more believable than Russian propaganda. The claim that calling WW2 'The Great Patriotic War' is rewriting history is laughably absurd. |

"It is Ukrainian propaganda and no more believable than Russian propaganda. The claim that calling WW2 'The Great Patriotic War' is rewriting history is laughably absurd." Seriously? Russia's claim to be the main victim and sole victor of WW2 is a reasonable interpretation of history and the Red Army raping and looting its way through Eastern Europe and Germany to create the Soviet Empire really was "the humanitarian mission of the USSR in the liberation of European countries"? Calling it 'The Great Patriotic War' certainly is nothing new but no less laughable for that. To be fair though, the Soviets only fought a land war on one front against one adversary so I guess it is natural that they didn't see it as a World War. |

I rarely agree with mkenny, but on this particular occasion I fully agree. This is nothing but an embarrassing puerile attempt at agitprop. B |

Not a fan of current Russia, but without them in 1941-45 we would all be speaking German and Japanese today……. |

It is interesting that when the Germans conquered Ukraine in 1941 they Ukrainians saw them as liberators. It was only Nazi ideology and race theory that turned Ukraine against them. Probably one of the biggest mistakes of WWII (although considering the ideology of the Third Reich it is hard to see them doing anything different.) Imagine what would have happened had the Germans harnessed the antipathy of Ukraine against the Soviet Union. I personally think it would have tilted the Eastern Front into a German victory. This article at least shows that the Ukraine/Russia divide occurred a lot earlier than 1991 or 2014. |

One could be forgiven for thinking hardly anyone in 'the west' knows (or cares) about the multiple European wars that started after the chaos of the Russian Revolution and the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was a dark and savage period in history where every one of the participants committed unspeakable crimes against their neighbours. They were all as bad as each other. Those who are actively seeking the destruction of the current Russian state should look long at hard at the consequences of the 1917 break-up |

Imho…nobody is "actively seeking the destruction of the Current Russian State"… is Russia who is seeking the destruction for an independence country commiting horrible acts against civilians… or you share that the Ukranians are a nazi countrie?… with a jew as President… Armand

The internet is awash with cold-war warriors actively promoting the chance to 'finish Russia once and for all' You can try and smear me with whatever charges you think best forward your agenda but the fact is the site you linked is a Ukrainian Propaganda tool. |

"The internet is awash with cold-war warriors actively promoting the chance to 'finish Russia once and for all' You can try and smear me with whatever charges you think best forward your agenda but the fact is the site you linked is a Ukrainian Propaganda tool." I have no sympathy with those hoping that Russia will be finished once and for all. If anything, my hope would be that this leads to a Russian regime that puts the interests of most Russians first, rather than ripping off the nation's wealth and trying to rebuild a lost empire for their own aggrandisement. In terms of propaganda from the opposing sides (and you are right – this is Ukrainian propaganda) we ought to give due credit to the Russians for their creativity and wild surrealist twists on reality! Invade a small neighbour that is trying to throw off its former Soviet-republic baggage of corruption and far right politics and portray it as defence against a future NATO invasion and a crusade against Satanism and decadence. Ukraine elects a Jewish president in free elections – no problem, just say they are all Nazis. Ukraine unexpectedly fights back effectively and get's more support than you'd expected – that's fine – blame them for ‘escalating' when they should just have surrendered. Ukrainian propagandists have it easy and that just isn't fair. They have to be little more than reporters. |

The Military-Industrial Complex always needs a boogie man. They have the $$ to pay lobbyists to push their agenda to politicians and retired generals to scare the public into big defense spending. During the Cold War, while spending on weapons, the Soviets were conducting a fairly successful Psy Op campaign against the American people turning them into Useful Idiots to do their bidding in the media, schools, and elsewhere. Yuri will explain it: YouTube link After listening to the video you may wonder who really won the Cold War as we have met the enemy and he is us. Wolfhag |

Wolfhag….you live in a country with a choice between a very right wing party and an extremely right wing party. Your media ranges from the mid-to-far right to the downright loopy and virtually all of it is owned by a small clutch of immensely rich men who pay little or nothing in the the way of taxes. If that is the result of a 'fairly successful' campaign one has to question what you mean by 'successful'. |
