The Marine Corps has reactivated a historic base on the island of Guam as part of an ongoing reshuffle and reorganization of troops in the Pacific.

The service held a ceremony to establish Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz -- the first new base for the Marines in 70 years -- on Thursday at Asan Beach in Guam, a press release announced…

"…we are tired of being a colony."

They'll be tired until they realized how much of Uncle Sam's money will be flowing into the local economy of Guam and NOT into the local economy of Okinawa's.

I'd also like to see how much the reduction of Marines on Okinawa will affect their local economy?

I know that when they closed down my kaserne in Germany in 1994, the entire area took a massive economic hit and didn't fully recover for almost 10 years.

That quote was just from a few malcontents. The reporter used the quote because it's colorful but not necessarily representative of the people of Guam as a whole. The press does this all the time.

I thought that the Guam decolonization effort was directed at becoming a state, which I think would be great.

That is if all that Marine equipment doesn't cause Guam to tip over. :) YouTube link

I don't think the equipment will tip over Guam. Some rowdy marines on R&R might, though.

I saw that on Military.com too.

That is something they don't get I guess. When you shut down any Military Post/Base the local economy is always affected. Usually negatively … It happens Overseas and CONUS.

That is if all that Marine equipment doesn't cause Guam to tip over.
Yes, I saw that on FOX. They replayed when the question was asked by the elected official to the Military. And he continues to get voted in ?

Interesting that they're farther west, guess the USN has transport that we don't know about with Berger's penny packet plan to take on the PRC.

Well, I think the only place on the ground any US Forces will take on the PRC/CCP would be Taiwan. But the USN & USAF will be busy in the air and on the seas. Hopefully that will never happen.

Does Guam have a 'National Guard' unit? If so, they should be given the tanks the Marines got rid of… ;-)

I believe Guam does have an NG. I know I had some Guamanian troops in my unit and in others my and other Bns that I was assigned. Samoans too … these guys were BIG ! The Rock must be the template !

But yes, we should see if those 200 former USMC M1 were sent to Guam, if it would sink ?!?!? 😁

As I said, I saw that on FOX. They replayed when the question was asked by the elected official to the Military. And he continues to get voted in ? You can't make this up !! 😎

Even if they put 1000 M1s on Guam it's a fixed location with a handy latitude and longitude that can be targeted from afar. I'm still waiting on news the USN has any more transport to move men and material to the western Pacific. The Okinawans are always going on about Marine Air on the island (the whole freighter/carrier idea in play) so when does the US move those assets farther east and well out of useful range?

Yeah, I'm pretty darn sure Guam won't sink because there are too many aircraft, tanks, etc. parking on the island.

I was making a joke Legion, and didn't take it seriously (the the Congressman sure did).

Yes, I thought you were making as joke … so no harm … no foul ! Sorry I miss understood. My last post before this was meant to be a joke as well.

I guess I should leave comedy up to the professionals! 👍👍
