WOW!!!

Sorry, don't mean to diss my northern cousins, but REALLY, FOUR tanks???? (see what I did there?)

A full platoon, with perhaps more being sent at some point in the future.

Of course, on a proportional basis, that may be more than the US Army is planning to send now to Ukraine, out of our inventory, so our little shipment is pretty paltry too.

Still, I suspect this WILL be the butt of a lot of Putin and other Russian generals' and leaders' jokes in the next few minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months to come, if not even years and decades.

Not sure that will be a big deterrence to strike fear into the hearts of the Russian military.

Now, if we can only get 100+, or so other countries to do the same, we might be able to scrape together a full armored division of tanks for the Ukrainians.

Take off, eh!

Egoodlander26 Jan 2023 6:40 p.m. PST

The last I heard was that their whole tank force was leased from Germany. Does anyone have better info on this?

The Canadians are playing "We won't send more unless you agree to send more." It's a way of leveraging their small stock to get a bigger boom.

Canada probably not many Leos. OK by me.
UK sending Challys… great, But We NEED the things!
'Expediency' can be a useful term.

The Canadian army only has 20 Leopard 2A6M and 62 Leopard 2A4/2A4M tanks. Canada has three armored regiments (battalions) each with one or two armored squadrons (companies) and several light armored squadrons (recon) for a total of four squadrons. These may have 17-18 tanks per squadron if still organized as they were during the cold war. This would leave 10-14 as spares for maintenance replacements. Sending more than four would leave them short or ready vehicles for the armored squadrons.

Apparently the symbolism of this has escaped some people. And every single tank matters.

Reading your post Tortorella, I couldn't help but think of this…

Yes, that is true, I did not realize they had downsized so much. Like much of NATO.

And every single tank matters.
Very true if used properly. And IMO the Ukraine's forces will.

CFeicht27 Jan 2023 4:58 p.m. PST

Don't be ungrateful, that's half their tank fleet!

Ha! Excellent, Tgerritsen!! Er…tanks a lot!

Canada only has 82 combat tanks available. 4 is about 5% of the total available. Canada stepped up compared to many NATO countries. Did the USA send 5% of their total? What about Britain or France? Canada also sent a lot of their highly regarded LAVs. Considering how small their force is and how much the Liberal government has cut back on mitary spending, Canada is doing amazing at how much they have provided.

Go Canada!

I believe the Canadian military had some sort of sexual misconduct scandal that has caused resignations, hurt morale and recruiting, reducing their forces.

Recruiting issues are not just an American issue. I think there may be some trouble in Russia with this as well…

But Canada still stepped up and is counted, eh?

Canada, our bros from the Great White North has leadership problems as well.

In the past the Canadian Military has always stepped up, especially with UN missions. And they were there in A'stan as they were NATO and along with other NATO members.

Well at least hundreds if not thousands of illegal aliens are not crossing our Northern Border !

However, I did see in the media, bootlegged eggs 🥚🍳 were coming over the border. As eggs are too Bleeped text expensive here !!! True story. Damned Canucks trying to slowly kill us off with high cholesterol food like eggs !!!! 😱😨😧

No Avian Flu up there, apparently. I am hoarding my eggs in case they become currency.

I'd just like to no longer have to take eggs off my grocery list. The way things are going eggs won't be only currency.
