I would have thought the USA would have beaten them to that. Perhaps they ARE working on that in our army, but keeping it a secret, for now. I wonder if that's what is in some of the "top secret" docs just recently uncovered, and in the news a lot of late?

O'man the jokes I could post that would guarantee a trip to the DH.

These reports and others with similar themes seem to highlight the phobias of the Russian regime and also the phobias they wish to leverage.

I have seen reports from earlier in the war where information was spread on Russia media that Ukrainian units were comprised of Polish and African American mercenaries.

Maybe they have been reading about ancient Thebes and are forming the Polish Sacred Band.

Since much if not all of Russia's propaganda if for home consumption. The average "Ivan" on the street will probably believe it. Just like "the average Joe[or Jane] on the street does here. It is absolutely amazing when some in the USA are asked simple questions about history or even current events. 😱😨 You can't always blame the education system in the USA! So much biased, false or just plain lies comes across our media from so many sources.

Well, from what I've read a good number of Russian's still maintain a healthy degree of scepticism, but they live in a State where expressing that publicly is very unhealthy… Call a war a war and you can get a stretch in the Russian prison system which seems not have moved on that much from Solzhenitsyn's day.

I have heard in the media that only about 1/3 of the Russians support the war. 1/3 don't and another 1/3 don't care. Those figures are an estimate, I'm sure. But publicly disagreeing with Putin's War may not be a good idea.

As well as thousands of Russians have fled The Motherland to avoid being fed into the meatgrinder. However, Putin still finds bodies to push into the military then to Ukraine. Many never to be seen again.

Most of the time a politician brings up traditional values is basically a squirrel – policies aren't working, economy a train wreck, I have my fingers in the till… "Look over there its a squirrel". For the word "squirrel" read blame a minority group, tell the electorate the world is simple when it isn't or I support "tradition values".

Frankly given the choice between Orban and say a Borgia Pope for spiritual advice – I'd take the Pope!

AFAIK that battle is still ongoing, how can it be a debacle? You have link that backs up your assessment ?

The obvious response to the Bakhumt debacle is if Ukraine is bled white why hasn't Russia broken through? And no I don't mean manged to occupy some relatively tiny sliver of hell-scape for the cost of hundreds of causalities and thousands of of artillery rounds. I mean before the invasion Russia was presenting itself as a near pier power versus NATO, though equally as also being horribly vulnerable in near enough the same breath as part of the propaganda fire-hose, so how come its failed so badly against a second tier power? And no there are no NATO regular troops on the frontlines.

For the record the Hungarian economy isn't in great shape and Orban is overly reliant on EU handouts…. Poland was doing fine and probably still is since it had one of the EUs more buoyant economies.

Considering the general attitude towards sexual minorities in Poland, official formation of such units would have been quite odd event.

OTOH in Ukraine members of sexual minorities serving in the armed forces have started to openly identify themselves with a unicorn badge sewn into their uniforms (they serve in ordinary units). Reuters made last year a news item about the subject that garnered some attention:
