I've been working on some 1/72 plastic pirates leftover from some small vignettes I had made. I took a look to see what's out there for enemies, if I were to get into gaming with the pirates, and did not see much. Found some Mars sets labeled "Late 17th century" and ordered the Spanish set of thise, though this is still early for glGolden Age Carribean/coastal North America, which is where my interest is. The sets I have right now are cheap plastic, and I'd like to stick with that. So I'm curious if anyone knows of English and other sets of sailors and naval forces, merchant sailors, or anything else my plastic pirates can terrorize?

I appreciate the posts, friends. I'm not super interested in zombies (in general) and looking for something closer to historic. As for the plastic soldier review, that's a great site and I looked through the sections by period.

Under "pirates" there's only sea thieves, no potential victims, though maybe the buccaneers set there could do for armed sailors, or the two sets of North African pirates for sailors of the Mougal fleets, but the Algerian ones are 100 years too early according to the PSR review. Looking in the War of Spanish Succession section a bit, I see some various infantry sets that may be useful. However, there's no sailors that I saw.

This blog post has some interesting points about the dress of sailors of the British Navy in the first decades of the 18th century:

Look under War of Spanish Succession for troops to fight.

Some of these might work…

That's a good one as well.

HaT have a set of suitable sailors and Marines, cannon with crew are in there too, you could hear swap the Marine hats for floppier headgear.

The HaT stuff is Napoleonic, nothing like sailors from the golden age of piracy.

Try a search on the Plastic Soldier review just on date …

I tried 1650-1720 and there are a few there that might interest you. Mars and GerMan seem good manufacturers to try.

thanks all. this final suggestion of using the new advanced search function they have to search by years is paying off. Nothing great for sailors, but I can at least put together some infantry units to fight the pirates. Also, it's not like the Mars pirates are all that accurate that I need to be uptight about it with their enemies. Thanks for all the ideas.
