Any ideas, or did they just wear Japanese uniforms? I'm thinking of using the "Bamboo spear" troops and modifying them with rifles in their hands.

I don't recall much reference to them in anything I've read about Burma other than the odd local (voluntarily or otherwise) tipping off the Japanese as to locations of Commonwealth troops. Not really any time to develop local troops in the Malaya campaign, but the Japanese organised a serious Indonesian army with Japanese kit – we've had some excellent games set in the British intervention there in 1945-6.

So just use the Japanese miniatures. Makes sense, less likely to have a "friendly" fire incident.

Hmm….good for the Malayan Emergency with that Sterling – or for Confrontation.
