I'm making a target for Vietnam air game. The Dong Phong Thuong Bridge north of Than Hoa was a triple span trestle bridge. So I'm going to make a simple diorama of the bridge on a 4" disk, with the bridge being 2.5 to 3 inches long and maybe an 1/8th inch wide, just a couple of chunks of styrene or bass wood. The river will be the a reddish brown.

My question is how do I paint it? It's a open structure over the river, how do I get a reasonably realistic look from all directions assuming the viewer is looking down and across? I figure I can paint the steel frames, but how do I fill it? From above your looking at a railroad and road, the side river/roadbed .

I'm afraid if I match the river color too closely it will vanish at a distance.

Paint it pale grey with rusty bits. The rail tops will be bright steel on a grey bed and the roadbed dark grey. If you gloss varnish the river, and matt the bridge it should stand out.
