Going through my US ground pounders I have a bunch of platoons with 8 rifle teams. Bought second hand, no idea when/where.

Are there US platoons with 8 teams? Paras? Rangers? Any idea what gives?

Four squads broken into 8 rifle teams, two teams per squad.
That way they can bound forward by team within each squad. A task organization that was not uncommon in the Cold War, and probably other times too.
That would be my guess.

Mystery solved.

They are *two* platoons of armored infantry, at 4 teams per platoon….
