not really Americas contrary that suggests the title, because the main French American territory, New France in North America from Louisiana to Acadia, is not curiously concerned in this 5th volume despite written by the well-known searcher author René Chartrand, French Canadian himself, maybe for a 6th volume to cover also Africa and Asia…? Helion blog link By Author René Chartrand author of Helion's ‘Wars and Armies of the Sun King' books This latest volume is very different than the previous four in that it concerns men and events in essentially tropical America, namely the West Indies and their adjacent mainland territories with some diversions farther away in Brazil and the Pacific shores of Chile and Peru. The Sun King did not come to America, but his ambitions regarding the ‘New World' were great. He too wanted sizeable territories in the West Indies and South America, but the field was already largely occupied by the Spanish and the Portuguese since the late 15th century. The Dutch, British and French late comers appeared mainly from the second quarter of the 17th century. The British had successfully occupied Jamaica; Louis XIV was determined that France should have at least the same.
