Can 2023 offer anything to compare to the excitement generated by "Top Gun: Maverick," now officially the biggest military movie of all time? Probably not, but we've got quite a few promising features on the calendar that should satisfy anyone who enjoys service-related action… Military: link |

None of which is actually a history based war movie. Mike Bunkermeister Creek |

Oppenheimer is the only thing that comes close to a "military" movie… |

I was hoping for a remake of 'The War of the Roses'. The one with Turner, Douglas and DeVito, not Lancaster and York. |

Oppenheimer sounds interesting. The rest not so much. As for Top Gun Maverick, saw it and was vastly underwhelmed. |

Thanks. Not a big TV watcher or movie goer but I'll keep an eye out for these. Haven't seen Top Gun yet but all of those I know that have loved it. |

What makes these military movies? |

Arguably, Extraction2 could be considered a military movie, commando rescue mission etc. The rest not so much. "Pale Blue Eye" looks good but actually a murder mystery in a military setting. The trailer is promising, and Netflix so I have already paid for it lol! |

So, none of the ten "military" movies involve actual soldiers in an army--or airmen in an air force, come to that. I believe MY top ten military movies for 2023 will be the usual--Patton, The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, Waterloo, Gettysburg, Zulu, Zulu Dawn and John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy--possibly with Charge of the Light Brigade and They Died with their Boots on for bonus. Let me know if they make a movie which would go on that list. huron, I'd binge-watch the Star Wars prequel trilogy before I watched another fighter jock movie. |

Crap. Another year of not going to one single movie in a theater. I can't even remember the last movie that I actually went to see in the theater. Was it Midway? 1917? |

I didn't go to the movie theater in 2022, does not look like I will be going in 2023 either……. |

Just because the main character was once in the military does NOT make it a military movie. |

"Patton, The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, Waterloo, Gettysburg, Zulu, Zulu Dawn and John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy--possibly with Charge of the Light Brigade and They Died with their Boots on for bonus." +1 Robert, excellent choices all. I would add: Tora!Tora!Tora!, Wake Island, They Were Expendable, The Green Berets, Guadalcanal Diary, 12 O'Clock High, Battleground, Bataan, Pork Chop Hill, Dogs of War. In the last 5 years I have seen Ford vs Ferrari, two Godzilla movies, and Dr. No at the movie theater. And I love going to the movies, they are just all crap now. Mike Bunkermeister Creek |

That was a great list of movies to just skip right on over. A couple looked promising, but that's a couple. What makes these military movies? Because some clown on Military.com wrote that they are. |

The new German language All Quiet on the Western Front on Netflix sounds worthy of inclusion on your list. |
