Splitting the cost of a room with a friend. Gonna be awkward if they give us a single King. I booked the room and put down 2 adults but whats the chances we get stuck with that? Will they prioritize single occupants for King?

I would let the initial surge of booking calm down and then give the hotel a call next week. I travel with Marriott a lot and find them normally to be very helpful. I would expect with over six months notice they will be able to work with you and accommodate your needs.

Martin K, that's exactly what I planned to do. Important part was getting the room.

Same here. My son and I can work with whatever size bed they give us, but we need 2 beds. Description was totally useless.

What a cluster… called the hotel, got shunted to central booking, wait on hold 15 minutes while the representative did her thing to try and find out how to ensure I get a 2 bed room. She says she can't do anything on her end because its a block of rooms, so I have to call the hotel front desk directly.

Call the hotel, rep says she can't see the reservation so far ahead, and she doesn't know what kind of room I'll get. I persist, and she says to call a week before the convention to request a 2-bed room. At worst they can put in a rollaway bed (assuming they aren't already gone), but I bet they'll charge me for it. I just know it'll go badly…

This is really stupid… I'm tempted to just cancel already.

I made my reservation at noon exactly and there was a choice of either two queens or "you get what you get". I'm guessing the first option sold out really quickly so all the folks here saw only the latter option?

I think this may be a result of HMGS asking for more rooms in the block. The hotel knows they'll need predominantly two-bed rooms for con attendees and allocated a set number of those. The remainder of the block would be dependent on requirements balanced with availability.

I had the same experience with trying to get the two-bed room but having it sell out almost instantly. I'm keeping my room at the Holiday Inn even if it is $300 USD more at least I won't be sharing a bed with my brother. :)

@TSD101 Many hotels will provide a "rollaway" bed upon request. No telling what the Marriott's stipulations may be ($) about that.

@Martyn @Dale. Based on past experience, I'm fearful that all the Marriott "block" rooms may be gone be now.

@Lascaris. Is your Holiday Inn room within a "block?" Last summer their's opened after the Marriott. I made no try for the Marriott. I'm not a vendor nor GM so I stayed out of their way. I dithered re the HI and got shut out. I commuted in from near the Wynd/Host. Once was quite enough.

I started booking at 12:03 and was never given that choice.

I hit the link at maybe 1200:30….literally the instant my computer showed 1200! Got no choice…"you get what you get" description of bed types. But at least I got a room! It's like getting the golden ticket with these cons!

Amk21107 Jan 2023 6:13 p.m. PST

I got on right at 12 and booked a room (yay!) I too saw the "you get what you get" description but since I like sharing a bed with my wife I'm good. 😏

Last year my wife and I stayed at the Cork Factory hotel about a 7 minute drive from the Conference center. It's a nice place if you can't get closer.

Really good ways to let customers know how well they are valued…

"We don't have the kind of car you wanted to rent, so we've upgraded you to…a cement mixer,"

"…you get what you get…"

"No soup for you!"
