Apart from the DAK, did the Germans use their Kubelwagens for recce elsewhere? I would like to make up a mixed unit of Kubelwagens and Schwimmwagens as recce troops but I can only find anecdotal evidence. Does anyone have a source or information on this? Did the Waffen SS do this but not the Heer? In particular would such a grouping be seen in Normandy in 1944?

From "Panzer Grenadier, Motorcycle, & Panzer Reconnaissance Units" by Horst Scheibert:

For our Rapid Fire games we routinely use a mix of kubelwagens and schwimmwagens in the recce units – in fact, they are often the only vehicles in the recce units

Neihorster shows the 1. SS Recce Battalion (part of the LSSAH) as having Kubelwagons around the beginning of Kursk in its 'Light' Recce companies.

As noted, they were certainly common in the midwar period as units transitioned away from motorcycles, but much less common in the late war period in divisional recce battalions although they did occur in recce platoons at battalion /regiment level.
