OK, so you give a speech to the government of the most powerful nation on earth with your hand out for money; wouldn't you want to wear a tie or something? Maybe a nice polo?

Since the war began, Zelenskyy has portrayed himself as 'just a man fighting for his country', and has dressed to reflect that fact. If I remember rightly, Benjamin Franklin, did the same thing during his time in France, while he was drumming up support for the new United States. At a time when everyone in France was dressing to the 10's, Franklin dressed in simple, everyday clothes, making a statement in his dress on what the the US was like, and fighting for. Of course Zelenskyy, is very aware of what he is doing, showcasing Ukraine, the underdog, vs the smart dressed Putin. |

Yes! You'd think the president of a nation would have a go-bag with a suit in it for occasions just like this. He did it for the PR aspects. |
Tortorella | 22 Dec 2022 7:12 a.m. PST |
But he always looks like this as far as I can tell. And he is not much of an elite, apparently, even though he was a comedian and presumably made some money. PR maybe, but all I could think of was his representation of ordinary people and their resolve. I also felt like I have been starved for somebody real to speak to us. Yes, he wants stuff, but in a cause I can identify with. |

Mr Elmo – Showing your indoctrination and old age are you? Putin turns up dressed in excessive finary when his cpountry is in a losing war and his aremy is short on food. Do you ukcraine to follow this example? He was dressed well for the occation, a man spelling out the threat to all of us from a child molesting perveret (how elese do you describe a man who authorised stealing of children). He cant stop rape and pillage of adults how will he perorect vulnerable children. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 23 Dec 2022 1:44 a.m. PST |
Much has been written at least in the UK about Zelensky's signature look though typically I wasn't immediately able to find one of those articles. IIR correctly the look is part artifice, wishing to appear down with the troops, and part necessity dating to the initial hours / days of the invasion. Frankly I suspect he has more important things to do than listen to some PR consultant tell him precisely what shade of blue his tie need to be… |
Mr Elmo | 23 Dec 2022 4:15 a.m. PST |
Showing your indoctrination and old age are you? Ukraine doesn't have a dress uniform?
|
SBminisguy | 23 Dec 2022 8:48 a.m. PST |
He was dressed well for the occation, a man spelling out the threat to all of us from a child molesting perveret …and yet Zelensky himself has now banned *all* political opposition, seized the assets of dissenters, shut down independent media and consolidated press under State control, and recently banned the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and seized churches, assets and jailed priests. Hmmm. Putin has also been arresting Orthodox priests calling for peace. Must you become what you fight?? |

Times are pretty tough in Ukraine. |
Tortorella | 23 Dec 2022 2:18 p.m. PST |
No, but you must fight the Kremlin's inside buddies there if you want to have any chance to save Ukraine as a separate nation. This is total war for him and there may be overreach, as there is in any nation on the brink. He may be wrong on some of it, but he is not Putin. I would hate to see him done in from the inside. |
Dal Gavan | 23 Dec 2022 2:21 p.m. PST |
Ukraine doesn't have a dress uniform? What makes you think he's entitled to wear it? |
Legion 4 | 23 Dec 2022 9:42 p.m. PST |
Good point, he never was in the military, AFAIK. It would be like our POTUS wearing an e.g. Army Dress uniform. |
Sho Boki | 24 Dec 2022 7:24 a.m. PST |
"recently banned the Ukrainian Orthodox Church" What?!? Nobobody banned the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is legal Church with all regalia. Only Stalin's branch of muscovites illegal KGB church was banned. This warmongering KGB church and other muscovites paid agents, called as "opposition", must be banned everywhere, not only in Ukraine. |
Tortorella | 24 Dec 2022 8:15 a.m. PST |
Exactly Sho… Right after Zelensky's speech a certain cable pundit came on tv to go after Zelensky about attacking Christianity. He will always be a target for some, I am sure he came in part because of the new Congress about to begin. Zelensky did not even return salutes when giving out medals the other day. He is a civilian. |
Legion 4 | 24 Dec 2022 4:00 p.m. PST |
We know Zelensky has dirty hands, he's corrupted, etc. That is well known. But yes, like our POTUS, he's a civilian. In a modern "democracy" that that is the norm in many cases. Worked so far … |

Right after Zelensky's speech a certain cable pundit came on tv to go after Zelensky about attacking Christianity. No idea who that was but I'd take a WAG they are from or on the reformed side of the Christian church. And even these days you will quite often come across the opinion if only spoken in code that those on the unreformed side aren't quite proper Christians. So attacking Zelensky for shutting down the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine who's "spiritual" leader is entirely pro-Putin and the war in his public statements, at a minimum seems to flirt with hypocrisy and at worst is outright Putin-stroking. Its also worth remembering that Zelensky stood on a platform of peace, rapprochement with Ukrainian Russians and anti-corruption. |
Tortorella | 02 Jan 2023 10:13 a.m. PST |
It was Tucker Carlson on Fox. Zelensky has challenges from all sides. |

At this point one can say what they want about Zelensky. He is no Saint, few are. But he seems to be the right man for the current crisis in his country. This could be said to be de facto WWIII with NATO, etc. vs the Russians. The Russia state appears to be living in another Century. They have to be stopped and punished. Many like Putin will get away with war crimes. The only way to stop the war at this point is to continue to support the Ukraine destroying all Russians in their nation. Including taking back the Crimea that Putin "annexed" in a short war in 2014. |
