Afaik the two 1792 karabinier regiments consisted of 6 karabinier squadrons and 2 chasseur squadrons . Question: did the chasseurs did wear white (as the karabinier part of the regiment) or green (as other chasseur regiments) |

From what i could see in my copy of Rawkins the karabiniers were all in white coats, regardless of function. Somewhat bizarrely a number of chasseur regiments also wore white in defiance of regulations stating green! |

@RvB I've always assumed 'My Regiment, my regulations' but it does seem to be limited to the Chasseur/Chevau-Leger regiments. Of course in the Austrian army white was always the easy/cheap option. |

I believe the Kaiserliks were renowned for generally sticking to regulation. |

RvB, Indeed, although the cheveau leger should have green coats, oNly two cheveau leger had the green coat, the other four had the white one. As the karabineer regiments also wore white, probably the cheveau leger division had also white uniforms. I am waiting for the the Helion book about the austrian cavalry. Maybe definitive answers in that. |

I checked my Helion book. Chevaux legeres in karabinier regiments were dressed as …..chevaux legeres. Personally I'd split the difference and put them in white coats. |

So – four grand divisions. How did they operate? Did the lights do all the patrolling and masking? For a battle were the lights withdrawn to reserves whilst the heavies went to work? Or did two of the heavy grand divisions sport one light squadron for screening and skirmishing? |

As far as I have read the Austrian cavalry fought tactically in division formation ie 2 squadrons. It was possible that all the divisions fought together but also that these were dispered on various theatres as the 2nd karabineers in 1793 was. The karabineer divisions were in germany, the cheveauleger division was in belgium |

@Stoppage I suspect you're looking for the sort of detail that no one wrote down and even if they did it applied to the date and time they wrote it only. My understanding agrees with J55. |

there should be a discussion somewhere on TMP (maybe at Napoleonic board) – Acerbi is covering this aspect in his Helion book about Austrian cavalry, the Chevaulegers – being part of the carabiniers – I would opt for a white coat with identical facings but a Kaskett as headdress. Not all Chevaulegers did wear green, the Austrians did not have mounted Chasseurs other than the Busy Jäger. Here my Levenehr Chevaulegers in 18 mm Sho Boki url=https://postimg.cc/kB76FGBq]

Very nice looking Chevaulegers von Winterfeldt. I'd love to see pictures of some of the games you have considering how nice all of your figures are painted. |
