Talleyrand is not even close to being a 'visionary.' He was corrupt and was only concerned with his own comfort. He was always involved in some type of intrigue, usually with his partner, Fouche. It was his 'advice' that convinced Marmont to turn traitor in 1814. |

Interestingly, according to the French 'tradition', Fouche made the proscription list of French officers to be punished (executed or imprisoned). When Talleyrand read it, he said that it was to Fouche's credit that all of Fouche's friends were on the list. The two were both corrupt and traitorous. |
