Getting ready for a big game next week when the kids visit, at least four players and maybe six. Sleepy Hollow. One faction is the Forest of Fear with its werewolves. Weres are intrinsically solitary and aggressive. They have a COOL rating of 2. Normally when a figure "blows its cool" by rolling higher, they will freeze or run. But weres must make their cool to act rationally. If they blow their cool they attack the nearest target. For two weres to cooperate they would have to both make their cool; if one fails, he refuses to cooperate, and if both fail they attack each other! When a were is threatened with harm, most typically by torches or other fire (fire wounds do not regenerate) it must make its cool to NOT charge. Multiple threats have the result of INCREASING the were's cool. So a were facing three torches has his cool raised from 2 to 4 (+1 for each torch after the first) and if he makes his cool he will retreat from the threat of fire. Comments? |

I think that makes sense; they understand when the threat to themselves increases, and it gives some unpredictability to the equation. How often would 2 of these "wolfmen" be on the same board? |

Well, I have several dozen WW models! But probably only two or three. |

Out here, they say that if you have been walking in the mountains four or five times, you have probably been watched by a bear or mountain lion at least once. If I understand your idea, this means the bear or mountain lion had passed their COOL roll. I would think that if standing still and watching you was a good strategy for one turn, their COOL rating for a second turn of watching would be higher, unless you are getting very close to them. If the characters are being watched, you (as Game Master) might want to tell the character something like, "The hair on the back of your neck is standing on end." Is there a proximity factor to use with the COOL rating? If you are moving silently and come around a corner, you may well be within a bear's personal space and he will attack, whereas if you are 20-30 yards/meters away, he may slip away into the woods. I am thinking that the COOL factor approach has merit. Grelber |

Yes, it has many applications. And yes, the watching beastie kept its cool. |

Besides a lot of 28mm lead, I have a bunch of Heroscape figures, the plastic prepaints. At least a dozen werewolves. There's also the McGregors, the Highlanders with big axes, a family of WW hunters. I pretty much start with the minis and make up the story to fit. |
