Video: Aftermath of an RPG hit on a British-donated Mastiff MRAP in Ukrainian service.
Osinttechnical, Nov 7, 2022.

The slat armour must have deformed the RPG, shorting the circuit, so that the charge did not explode.

Ref: Primer: Statistical Armour (only effective against RPGs.)

As separatist and Russian mobiks are poorly equipped they may not have anything more than RPGs, so slat and mesh armour is more useful for the Ukrainian side.

The shaped charge clearly penetrated the hull. It's most visible at 0:16 in the video (big hole) and you can see the tear behind the vertical slat at the right side of the are where the slats were wrenched apart.

The video shows the interior of the vehicle in significant disarray and the penetrator appears to have struck the heavy armor-glass block in the right rear door, cracking it severely but not quite penetrating. (Glass is highly effective as armor against shaped-charge weapons, but it generally needs to be in a composite to keep it from shattering outward when absorbing the penetration.)

Slat Armor may be better than nothing. I'd be more comfortable with it than without. And generally, it has some effect in some cases. May give you the "edge" you may need.

As a miniature modeler and hobbyist, I hate the look of slat armor, as well as trying to reproduce those in miniature.

Horrid stuff, but I suppose if it saves your life in real life, it is worth the trouble and expense.

GHQ even makes 6mm slat armor …
