Friends and I recently ran a large hoplite game at SELWG, the Second Battle of Mantinea, 362 BC. Epaminondas let the super deep phalanx into the Spartan/Tegean/Athenian lines, twive. A fine time was had by all!

It has inspired me to extend my hoplite forces and, in particular, their supporting light infantry.

Nice looking game. I like the idea of "raising" units rather than painting them (even when I paint them myself.) It just feels right to say it that way.

It always feels like raising a unit, because mostly the minis come out of my "reserve" boxes- often being minis I bought years earlier on eBay or from a bring and buy. Also each unit tends to involve the work of several different painters, which I tie together by overpainting.

It is wonderful to see a large game with superbly painted figures. Thanks for posting this.
