How different was the British uniform as worn during the Penninsular canpaign from that of the later Spanish uniform in the stovepipe shako and blue coat? |

Close except for color. Depends on what scale and how fussy you are. As I recall the wings for elites were never quite the same, for instance. And "Peninsular British" are a moving target. The Brits start in the Peninsula with black stocks and white pants with gaiters. If I remember correctly, it would be black stocks for Vimerio, no stocks but still white pants and gaiters for Talavera, and then no stocks and gray trousers by Albuera, with maybe Belgic shakos showing up starting about Vittoria. Which is why I only paint one Napoleonic British army per scale. |

And don't forget that clothing resupply was somewhat iffy at times and many British infantry would be wearing locally manufactured trousers, mainly brown. If I was doing a Peninsular British forces, I'd have about half in gray trousers, about a quarter in brown trousers (sometimes mixed in with the gray trousered units). With all of those in stovepipe shakos. Then the rest would be in gray trousers straight from the UK in Belgic shakos. Jim |

If the question is about using Spanish figures for Brits, the main difference, apart from shakos late in the period, will be the lace, and wings for the flank companies. I think you need to tell us why you are asking the question – the more specific the question the better the answer you are likely to get. |

I thought maybe he was wanting to turn Brits into Spanish. |

Me too. It's an excellent question if you want to build a shako-period Spanish army in 1/72 scale, and one I'm going to have to research some day. AFAICT there are zero miniatures ranges for this. - Ix |

OK, don't try this at home kids, but back in the day I painted my Airfix Waterloo British infantry as "Spanish", by doing them in blue … |

To be fair, back in those days, there weren't a lot of other 1/72 options: - Airfix Waterloo British
- Airfix Waterloo French
Sean Clark is famously a huge fan of 6mm, maybe even the biggest fan ever. I'd be interested to hear what he's really planning here. |

One option for 1/72 later Spanish and Portuguese is the HaT Dutch and Belgians. At least the stovepipe figures anyway, and even the Belgic shako figs if you're not too fussy. |
