Am I the only one who, thus far, likes it better than A Game of Thrones?

I feel like they did an excellent job setting the story for upcoming seasons and showed how the primary contenders to the throne didn't necessarily want the conflict; A series of events and misunderstandings inevitably led them to war.

Very good acting complements the story line. They cut back on the gratuitous violence and nudity but did a helluva job adding additional levels of intrigue.

I don't think it is as good as GoT, but it is better than LOTR RoP, Wheel of Time, and any other fantasy series. There was nothing *wrong* with House of the Dragon, but it didn't have scope that GoT had in its first season—too much talking in the same rooms at Kings Landing, not enough color in the characters. Good, but not great. But … they bit off a lot for this first season, with two+ time jumps and new actors for important roles. Next season should be better just from having set the stage in season one.

I find it ponderous and a tad boring. I keep thinking it's going to get somewhere but it is taking the long way around. They got more done in any given episode of GOT than these ever did.

It would have been a better series if it was about young Ned Stark and the future King Robert and the wars they fought.

I liked it. It is essentially a civil war (with dragons) series and setting the scene in some detail probably demanded much of that first season set the background the of principle characters and their motivations. I'm looking forward to season 2 in 2024 and expect a bit brisker(and far bloodier) pacing as the war kicks off.

Slitghtly better than Rings of Power but a bit boring and uninteresting.

I don't like it as much as Game of Thrones. It is slow, they don't develop the characters very well and not much action. Yet, I do watch it and hope it will get better. I also agree much much better than Lord of the Rings.

I also agree with Irish Marines, should have done a prequel to the events in Game of Thrones.

House of the Dragon is an excellent show with some brilliant scenes. The time jumps were handled well enough, because it quickly reminds us there is a bigger story coming together.
Some of the Raenys stuff in episode 9 and 10 felt out of place, but they are minor quibbles. I get that the talking in rooms stuff might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it as each conversation had some sort of consequence.
There is palpable tension in most episodes.
Best not to think about GoT too much, although comparisons are natural.
Now that HBO knows they have a winner, they will allow for some more set piece action/fight scenes. Plus the story demands we see more battles and action from this point.
Paddy Considine for best actor Emmy.

It is slow and boring. If I can keep up while zombie scrolling on my phone there are problems.

Rings of Power was better; Galadriel stayed smoking hot the whole season. Alicent is OK for a Bleeped text

Oh wow! Fornicating with Mothers is a bleep word.

I do not watch the show, and did not watch GoT (though I read the books until the brutality and gratuitous excess finally became too much). I will not watch either for the same reason I stopped reading the books— if I don't want to read it, I absolutely don't want to SEE it.
However, I just came across this article today and thought it was an interesting take: link
Not enough to make me watch the show, mind.
But I thought some here might find it insightful.
