Bare metal can be exposed by wear and tear on a machine or structure. A silver metallic marker is a fast and straightforward way of producing that effect on a tabletop terrain piece.

Depends on the marker/ink.

Check to make sure the silver ink doesn't rub off easily or smudge.

If you plan to spray a protective clear coat on the figure or model, test to make sure the ink won't run or lose its metallic quality.

Should also be pointed out that exposed metal on an AFV almost immediately rusts to brown. Bare metal is more an aircraft model thing (aluminum vice steel).
