So what is a good source of inexpensive army dudes? Wanting to give Mighty Monsters(Ganesha games 2012)

So far the only source i can recall is reaper's C.A.V line.

Also APC's, tanks and helicopters would be nice

jfleisher22 Oct 2022 2:54 p.m. PST

Battletech? iron Wind Metals.

Sergeant Paper22 Oct 2022 5:54 p.m. PST

Mechwarrior heroclix had troop units and flyers too. I planned to use those with Gashapon figures for Mighty Monsters. I see they are available on Ebay.

Now I've got to go find that box… saw the bigger Bandai figures 21, where are the small 'uns?

Darwin Green22 Oct 2022 6:39 p.m. PST

Sergeant Paper, you know that game is at least 20 years out of print. I'm not sure how easily those are to come by.

oh, looked at Battletech stuff, almost $20 USD for 2 tanks.

Pendraken do a little bit of 10mm sci fi: link
10mm is not really my scale, so that's all I got, sorry.

A few 6mm options I've bookmarked:

We appear to be some kind of golden age of 6mm sci fi miniatures.

Also Irregular Miniatures has a huge range of 6mm models from various time periods: irregularminiatures.co.uk . I'm guessing that some of the WWII or Vietnam figures might do?

For 6mm Yellow Admiral offered a great list. Here are some additions:

Alternative Armies – Bradley Fleet link link
CP Models link
Nuclear Shrimp Games link
Trolls under the Bridge link
I have images* with many of the minis link (search for the producer menu), including, for example, Age of Tyrants link
The great cost/what you get (in great quantity and quality terms) I think you can achieve with Scotia Grendel and GZG.
* unfortunately, I had to buy many 6mm minis without images on the shopping websites

If you look for inexpensive army men, look for 20mm plastic soldiers. There is anything you may want to use, combination with 15mm and 28mm material is possible.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa23 Oct 2022 8:39 a.m. PST

Plenty of 15mm FoW plastic US infantry sloshing around eBay and any B-movie worth its salt used stock footage of US soldiers – usually pretty much equipped as per WWII. The Hit the beach starter set would give you some US Airbourne (close enough) and Shermans as well and selling the Germans off would probably claw back a big chunk of the initial outlay.

10mm is thin on the ground. These guys are very much cheap and cheerful but seem to be on hiatus at the moment. Their quality was a bit ropy last time I handled any.

Pendraken is better. Victrix 12mm/1:144 sprues can be had individually but aren't what I'd call cheap.

Minifigs also do WWII and modern US infantry in 10-12mm-ish. Again, not particularly cheap.

Heroics and Ros for 6mm in WWII and Modern periods.

How inexpensive do you want to go? Because if the answer is "flat out poverty stricken" then this approach has much to recommend it:

Just don't tell Legion 4 ;-)

Can't speak to 6mm, but I did a fairly comprehensive comparison of SF 10mm infantry that you can still find on my blog – link

Wondering what this subject – though interesting is doing in resin printing? I don't see anybody mentioning it.

A search on thingverse might be helpful.

Here is an entire collection of free .stl files.

Lots of cheap or "free" options open up with 3d printed figures. Free meaning the files are free but you still have some printing costs. You can use a printing service, or the resin printing startup costs are in the 200 USD range these days.

Yes you can get an Elegoo mars Pro 2 (my firs one) for around $180 USD on Amazon.

I'm pretty darn sure that Heroics and Ros used to do 6mm SF infantry – but they don't seem to be listed in their catalogue anymore.

CinC/PFC does 6mm SF, as well as Ground Zero Games in the UK.
