A Question?
During the Mexican American War the U.S. Siege Train. Were the guns Single or Double Trail?
I know that U.S. artillery had just gone through modernizing with the field pieces going from Double Trail to Single Trail.
I have seen two period paintings of Siege Guns that appear to be single trail.
Thanks in advance for any information.

The most authentic depictions of the battles were done by German Carl Nebel who was in Mexico before, during and after the war. His paintings depict siege guns on single trail carriages at Palo Alto, although his view of the bombardment of Vera Cruz shows a battery of guns on naval carriages which had been removed from American ships.
