Howdy,
A few select photos from the 2nd Playtest of "On the Road to Bastogne with 4AD." Played Saturday (10/15) at Saga Games in Frederick.
I'll run the game Friday evening, 7pm, at Fall-IN in three weeks. A game using Frank Chadwick's rules underdevelopment, Breakthrough – Decision in Europe.
On December 16th, the German launched the offensive that became known as "The Battle of the Bulge." The 101st Airborne Division was tasked with holding the town of Bastogne, a key road junction in the Ardennes. The commander of the US 3rd Army, George Patton, assigned III Corps with relieving the siege of Bastogne. III Corps consisted of three divisions, the 4th Armored Division, the 26th Infantry Division, and the 80th Infantry Division. The 4th Armored led the attack. The scenario portrays the multi-day attack of the 4th Armored from December 22nd to 26th.
Photo 1 – Added an insert showing Bastogne. 327th Glider defensive positions in the foreground, elements of 26th VGD in background, right.
Photo 2 – Overview of the terrain, north at far edge.
Photo 3 – 13th FJR enters from the east.
Photo 4 – 14th & 15th FJR enter. Yellow markers indicate "bottlenecks" from traffic on the roads.
Photo 5 – Overview of the western portion of the 5 FJD defense.
Photo 6 – CCA attacks; TF Oden occupies Martelange.
Photo 7 – CCR attack Bigonville with 104th IR, 26 ID on their right.
Photo 8 – Initial attack of CCB is stymied.
Photo 9 – US recon (25th Mech) finds the ass of the 26th VGD. White markers indicate artillery which fired.
It was a fun game, I am looking forward to Fall-IN.
Ponder on,
JAS
