Warlord list the new doctor who freebie as 'soldier of fortune'.

Now, either they plan on doing Mr T next, or they are trying to appeal to non who fans.

Interestingly, GW are set up in a way, taking a nod from Who.

When they (I believe vergin books?) took over who novels from Target books, they began creating new who stories, with their own new companions and villains.

When they lost the licence to Who they simply continued the books without the who characters, name or images. It worked well for a few years!

GW are very well set in a similar way. Especially as there is already talk of them losing the LOTR licence. They can just keep producing figures based on their own designs for the extended Middle Earth range.

Eg the Camel riders are their own designs. Just tweek the name, maybe mak new plastic ones a bit different still and GW LOTR fans will buy them. Add a new rules set, probably based in their lotr rules.

This sort of thing already happens in miniatures. Mantic have done it, the ruins from their Mars attacks game went out seperatly and after the game vanished, if I remember correctly.

I seem to remember a few companies just changing the name of licenced figures once the licence lapsed. Probably thinking more action figures, happens a lot there.

The Robin hood prince of thieves range were all DC and return of the Jedi figures, for example.

PS Why no LOTR board??

Why no LOTR board??

Because the Ents would take for-EVER to type anything.

And the Dwarves would only post in Khuzdul--which they won't teach anyone else.

I can't take seriously any board dedicated to a particular fantasy or SF world, though I do appreciate the way boards dedicated to particular rules sets keep so many army list and points value discussions where I'll never see them.

GW LOTR has been going for 20 years (not including anything pre 2000).

LOTR minis and games are not exclusive to GW nor the last two decades.

Not to mention the popularity of the novels.

Star trek, Star wars and Dr Who (your welcome) have a board, why not LOTR?

I would support a LOTR board.
Maybe we should have a poll?

I simply asked last time.

I'll let someone else have a go.

Ive just had an email from Warlord; they are not renewing their licence, which will expire on 31st December 2022
There are several new sets being released as a last gasp [where have they been till now?] BUT they can only be made available as promotional packs. To get just one of these packs you have to put in an order for other stuff of £75.00 GBP
Best of luck with that. Especially as within weeks you wont be able to buy anything else that matches them.

The sets are mostly classic era, there isn't a lot that I haven't got covered in 28mm, and the larger size always put me off anyway.

My hope is that with Warlord dropping out of this market, that others may dust off some retired moulds, and/or make some new proxies.

Whoop!

Thanks for that!

Hopefully another, more worthy, company can pick up the licence.
