Calling any and all miniature gamers in Southern California: this coming weekend will be the newest installment of the long-running HMGS-Pacific Southwest MINI-WARS convention here in the Southland. In recent years it's been held on the campus at Cal State Fullerton. This year's installment has been relocated to a smaller venue, but with your help the fun and excitement will remain on an epic scale!

Where: 1127 North Anaheim Boulevard, Anaheim. This is just south of the 91 Freeway and North of La Palma, on the west side of the street.

Days: Saturday October 8th and Sunday October 9th, 2022

Times: Saturday 9:00AM until Midnight, Sunday, 9:00AM until 8:00PM

The venue is the Knights of Columbus Hall. The building has its own attached parking lot, but in case of overflow attendance the convention has arranged for attendees to also have access to a much larger city parking lot located very close by, behind the Hall. Parking in both lots will be free.

Purchase a one-day Convention Badge for Saturday or Sunday for $10 USD (non-members pay $5 USD extra) or for the whole weekend for $20 USD (non-members pay $5 USD extra). Then Tickets for any/all events you wish to play in are zero extra cost.

These prices are the same on the website or at the door on the day(s).

Currently scheduled games include:

AWI
Napoleonic Naval
ACW
WWII/FOW (Battle of the Bulge themed tournament)
WWII/(Bolt Action)
WWII/(Take Cover!)
Battle Tech
…and a Kings of War fantasy tournament featuring everything from Terrifying Undead to Elite Elves!

…and there will be more events out on the tables on the day.

Drive safely and hope to see you there!

Gonna hit the con saturday mornin'. Think it'll be a bit squeezed ?

Mad Guru08 Oct 2022 1:31 p.m. PST

If "squeezed" mean packed full of gamers having gaming fun, then I'm happy to report the answer seems to be YES:

To quote a famous American: The convention has only just begun to fight! So if you're in the neighborhood and on the fence… come on down!!!

Here's about 50 more pics showing a variety of tabletop gaming goodness from throughout DAY ONE of MINI-WARS 2022. I strongly encourage any/all So-Cal miniature gamers to stop by the Knights of Columbus Hall in Anaheim tomorrow on Sunday for DAY TWO!

Yep, was packed saturday :) Hit it about 1000 for a while. The usual beautiful ACW game. Shame they couldn't get the larger site but prolly next year ? Glad it was successful :)

Glad you made it and enjoyed yourself, Wolfshanza!

It took too long but I am back with pics from this past Sunday DAY 2 at Mini-Wars. As is usually the case, attendance was down from Saturday, but the gamers who showed up had a ton of fun.

Highlights of Sunday's events included Eugene Rodriquez's impressive Naval refight of the 1798 Battle of the Nile:

…AND JG Randall's epic refight of the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill, using his own Fire & Maneuver rules, which a big group of us Southern California gamers have been using to fight tabletop battles stretching from ancients to WWII, for more than a decade:

I hope to be back with a full-blown AAR on the Bunker Hill refight, which reached a dramatic conclusion, before too long. If I manage that I'll post a link to the Battle Report here.

MINI-WARS 2022 is now consigned to the history books. Unfortunate factors beyond the current HMGS leadership's control led to it having to downsize, but they did their best to turn those lemons into lemonade, and ended up with somewhere between 75 and 120 attendees enjoying the games, the flea-market, and best of all, fellowship with friends and strangers who share their love for our hobby. The hope is that next year's MINI-WARS will return to a larger space, possibly the Army & Navy Academy down in Carlsbad… possibly back to Cal State Fullerton… or possibly another cool venue yet to be revealed. Wherever Mini-Wars lands in 2023, hope to see you there!
