So, Warlord have yet another freebie on offer. This time you can't buy it separately though.

More modern tat, alas.

Suprise, suprise, no other new releases. However I'm feeling they may have something coming and are using the freebie to path the way.., or they are really just trying to move the old stock, or both.

Also, the time vortex site is basically shut down, sending you to the Warlord site instead. Perhaps thats telling?

The 11th doctor box set is out of stock. See if that's restocked Amy time soon? (PS that was a correction typo, but I'll leave pun)

That's a nice figure!

The character was perhaps a bit underused in the episode in which it appeared.

Welcome to the world of flash in the pan modern tat.

Oh, for a 7 episode epic. Or more.

This flash in the pan has been going now since 2005!
Be careful what you wish for with "epics"-they tried that not long ago with "Flux", with mixed results.
There weren't really epics in the classic series, the only ones I recall are the Dalek Masterplan and the connected stories comprising "Trial of a Timelord"

What I meant was the stories were aflash in the pan, as in less than an hour. Unfortunately the modern-ultra modern tat continues to plague us.

Most people would be familiar with the third doctor, who fans, that is. He had many 7 episode stories.

I'm not surprised moden tat gets mixed results.

Hmm…

Key to time? Anyone?

While longer stories may have been pretty common in the 60-70s, compared to a one off ep today, they are epic.

Someone may say bad wolf, or whatever they have conjured since. But Pertwee's were just normal run at the time. I'm not talking season long clues, but actual single stories that go for a decent time to actually care about.

Remember, who isn't like Trek and the like, you usually only have a few main characters and need time to get to know the rest.

The Dalek invasion of Earth also springs to mind, being among the best stories and a healthy length, full of suspense you don't get gabbing at one hundred miles an hour.

Oh yes, The Key to Time-forgot that.

Long ago there were shorter episodes but more of them in a story. That dropped off a bit later on when 4 episodes was more typical.Certainly when you watched a longer Hartnell story it felt more epic being stretched out over several weeks. I watched the Dalek Master Plan when I was 7 I think and it certainly felt massive.
You did however get some middle episodes that were padding, with characters taking turns to get captured and rescued.

I used to find the 20+ minute episodes a little frustrating as you'd hardly got yourself comfortable before the end music started. But now I can cheat and watch it in one go on DVD!
But some of the newer style format stories, while eliminating the padding, can feel a bit frantic.

I see good and bad in both classic and new.

Regarding Warlord, I think its a common thing with licenced ranges-once the initial enthusiasm passes then it tails off. GW are still going I think with LOTR but I dont think theres enough of a critical mass to support long term development of a Doctor Who game. Its a bit
of a niche within the SF gaming niche. The last attempt at that was the excellent set of rules from one of the Crooked Dice founders but they were FREE so not a commercial venture.

Don't forget, many?? of the VHS tapes were edited into a single thing.
