By pure chance I discovered Gibson's has Kingmaker on Kickstarter. The game will have two mapboards: one for a reissue of the original version and one for Kingmaker II, a new version meant to be shorter play and with various ways of winning. There are also rules for solo play.

The Kickstarter is open until 10/14/2022 for anyone interested.

I loved the original.

Thank you SO much for sharing this! I have no idea how I missed this in Kickstarter's app but it's one of my favorites from childhood. I'd have been tremendously disappointed to have missed it.

Among other things to like, it appears they've added the Earl of Oxford (de Vere) and corrected the Cromwell arms.

Very tempting!

Tempting indeed.

We played this a lot when I was at university in the 70's
Visually it was great but after a while we'd end up with a couple of wobbling piles of counters glaring at each other from opposite ends of the country, waiting for a mistake or an unlucky event card.
Generally we'd just finish by counting up who had the greatest force.
It would be interesting to learn what the options for play might be

I'd like to have the maps, and wondering about how the quick play option might go, too.

Yes, the strategy of hiding in your centre of power with a royal heir meant the game went on forever. I understand the new game has alternate victory conditions involving controlling large parts of the country, and also some shorter scenarios and options for solo play

Last time I played it was 1988 on board a ship patrolling the north Pacific. I am tempted just for the nostalgia.

Ah yes, the game that launched my wargaming career.
