…. being drafted into war in Ukraine

"Moscow — Tens of thousands of Russians have left the country since the partial mobilization of the Russian military was announced almost a week ago.

According to the Interfax agency, about 98,000 Russian citizens have entered Kazakhstan alone since September 21, the migration department of the Kazakh Interior Ministry announced on Tuesday.

More than 8,000 Russians received a personal identification number, which is a prerequisite for registration and opening bank accounts in the Central Asian country…"

98,000 military age Russian men have entered the country?

That does not seem like a group of tourists I would want to welcome, giving the Russia likes to pretend their soldiers are not really soldiers.

Congratulations, Russia's most successful campaign of conquest in decades.
At least on this front…

It probably a bit difficult to judge true numbers lost since not everyone who has legged it was necessarily eligible to serve. Though clearly some clearly saw the undiscriminating nature of Russia's draft process coming…

Though I saw one headline, which is probably quite a useful benchmark for the average person, saying that Russia has lost a force at least equivalent to their invasion force in the exodus.

98,000 have entered, but what is that compared to last year?

This is a really weird situation. Generally it's people with money and degrees and skills that leave, and they often don't come back. Ukraine and Russia are going to suffer for years from lost people. Oh, well, Kazakhstan's gain.

Until Russia starts imagining That Kazakhstan is actually Russia after all.
