Filling a few gaps in my Russian and German collections. The Plastic Soldier Company 1/72 sets usually include three vehicles, often more than I need and in the case of US and British armour I've been able to use additional vehicles to paint them up as lend-lease AFVs. I had not realized how much higher a profile the Sherman presented compared to the Valentine and Matilda. |

Anyone interested in Lend lease tanks for the Russians needs ot read the MASSIVE book "Stalin's War" by Sean McMeekin. It's an odd book, that really dumps on Stalin, and in turn FDR for supporting him to a degree most did not know about. The amount and types of lend lease to the USSR was immense, to include not just tanks and trucks, but entire factories, industrial patents, food, and even atomic secrets. Some people have slammed the book as going easy on Hiter, but I found a great dealof interesting stuff in it. |
