Newly mobilized Russian men are showing the rusted AK's they were given.

And so it begins….

(Assuming its legit)

Beyond belief.

It's an AK, so presumably a few hours cleaning and they're as good as new. Most guns you'd just have to scrap at that point.

If that's the state of their rifles, and we've seen the state of their other equipment in Ukraine, what's the state of their nukes?

This whole thing is an endless source of dismay.

'The one with the rifle shoots. – One out of two gets a rifle. The one without follows him. When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle and shoots.'

They would have passed every inspection for decades, such is the Russian system.

It's an AK. Clean that puppy up and it's good as new!

If true it won't matter, I'd think many would drop their weapon and run away. If they don't get killed.

But yes, as Raynman mentioned an AK can clean up pretty easily and be used.

JMcCarroll24 Sep 2022 7:12 p.m. PST

With the AKs rifling thay won't be able to hit anything past 50 meters.

Cleaned? Just a little rust. It's an AK. Use you foot to kick the action open and you're good to go.

D6Craig24 Sep 2022 9:18 p.m. PST

I'd be more worried if the ammunition was in that state.

Callsign 2124 Sep 2022 10:50 p.m. PST

I'm sure the ammo's fine. Like Druzhina says, it'll have passed all its inspections

Funny, the same scene passed through my mind. I assume the Russian military is aware that was probably never real and isn't to be aspired to? Though in this version the second guy gets a roll of gaffa tape to stick back on all the bits that fall off when it gets fired…..

I know the AK-series has a reputation for being rugged, but having been kept in a damp warehouse for probably a couple of decades (at least) anyone here volunteer to fire it? At some point corrosion stops being 'a bit of rust'.

New, never fired. Comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.

There have been some social media comments by Russian soldiers and MilBloggers who saw this video. According to them, these AKs weren't even the worst they have seen being issued and they stated the ammunition is in just as bad condition.

I don't think this rabble may be of much use, or even will make it to the battlefield. If so many won't be making it back home …

They are not expected to come back home.

Hmm. Like a lot of things, Dubious of content.
But… that weapon does not look like anything you would choose to use.. even de-rusted!
One would hope that Mag was not in place when 'stored' and had been Cleared!

The rifles actually being picked up and 'worked on' look a bit better! Nobody seem to be touching That! lol.

Who cares about a little rust as long as they can fix their bayonet for the human wave charge…

Heedless Horseman Supporting Member of TMP25 Sep 2022 11:32 p.m. PST

Not having been services… I would rather have a decent SMLE Mk.1 !
Lol.

A lot of surplus Russian 7.62x54R ammunition was steel- cased; if the 7.62x39 is similar severe rust or corrosion does sound like a safety hazard.

They are not expected to come back home.
Of course not … but again Putin & his supporters don't care.

Some of my friends have bought the Russian steel shelled ammo. Online ? As it was cheaper. They have to shoot it up fairly quickly to avoid rust. I am glad to help …

Andy ONeill28 Sep 2022 5:59 a.m. PST

If you oiled that ammo.
That could creep into the cartridge?

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP28 Sep 2022 9:05 a.m. PST

I'd think a light rub down with an oil rag might help ? But I'm not sure what my friends are doing to keep them from eventually rusting ?

The quickest, easiest solution was to fire up that ammo first. 😎
