Beautiful!! I understand using Mod Podge mixed with paint as a primer, but what is the windshield washer fluid for?

I'm guessing the wiper fluid is a detergent to reduce the surface tension in the mix and allows the primer mix to stay as a film rather than "gapping" and leaving areas uncovered after priming. I've tended to use a few drops of dishwasher rinseaid or washing up liquid for the same reason in homemade washes – and it might help the cover of brush on gesso which sometimes "gaps" too, I'll give it a try once I'm in winter (brushing not spray) priming season

They are nice, do please keep posting as your project progresses.

Thanks for the kind comments.

The windshield fluid helps to thin the paint and mod podge for better coverage. This is not a trick I thought of but model builders use it instead of water to thin paints. A cheep flow aid solution.

Thanks for sharing your progress. I have fallen in love with 1/72 plastics all over again. I am doing Pony Wars in 15mm, as I already had a large Plains War collection when the rules were reissued. But I am collecting 1/72 plastics for other periods. Thanks for your painting tips!

PaulRPetri23 Sep 2022 7:40 a.m. PST

Thanks Nick! I also have 15mm Pony Wars stuff, not a complete collection for it, but switched gears mid flight, as I am prone to do. I have been a big 1/72 fan since the mid 1990's and have several large collections for various periods.
