I thought I would see if I can get this project done in my favorite scale 1/72. I am just starting out but I thought I would try to document my journey.

Very nicely done. I am working on the same project in 28mm. Your project is great inspiration.

28mm! I started that way and decided I didn't have enough room on the table for that many 28mm figures so I switched to 18mm Blue Moon.

If anyone wants to buy a bunch of unpainted 28mm US Cavalry and Plains Wars Indians by Foundry and OG I have plenty to sell.

And I did start Pony Wars in 1/72 with the old Atlantic figures but decided on 28mm. I probably should have stayed with 1/72 as your collection looks really good.

Figures look great – do show them again when you've textured / painted the bases. You really should try a game with the Pony Wars rules – by all means replace the shooting / combat mechanics if you like, but the event cards and Indian reaction tests that basically structure the game are brilliant.

Great work!

Thanks everyone for your comments!
Rdfraf you make me feel better I had started this in 15mm and painted a fair bit of stuff before I made the switch.
BillyNM I may still use the Indian reaction tables and the event cards. I did so for this Zulu game I did awhile back

I also have bought a ton of 1/72 Pony Wars figs. However, the lack of dismounted Cavalry kept me with my 15mm painted and unpainted figs. Strelet's released a nice dismounted Cav w/mounted set. but it's Acw focused. You could swap heads but I'd rather just print them up. Haven't found a good file yet. Sometimes I thing 10 or 6mm would be the way to go. O own an Irregular 6mm army pack of the Indians. The terrain and table size could be better reflected , I think. Oh, I'm sure that whatever you do Paul will look exceptional! Just like your Zulu War's figs in those pics. Well done!
thumbs up thumbs up

Thanks

Thanks very much John! My 1/72 madness is very hard to control at times.

Nice work Paul. You should start a blog on Blogspot. It's really easy to set up. The Indian reaction rules in PW are a lot of fun.

PaulRPetri19 Sep 2022 2:25 p.m. PST

Thank you Jim. I used the Indian reaction rules for the Zulu games we tried out, I did tinker with a few of them to more resemble Zulu actions.
A blog would wear me out!! I'm not very inspiring.
