All very good points … but in the era of woke, CRT, etc. logic & reason is replaced by emotion, Activist/progressive bias, agenda and narrative.

E.g., As I saw one meme on FB. I think it covers a lot of ground. Albeit not too PC but very true.

I never owned and slaves. You never picked and cotton. I don't owe you nuth'n !

A little gritty – however, the truth is the truth. We can't change the past, only understand it from the era's standards, context, mores, etc. The good, the bad & the ugly.

Agreed, Legion. And the emotional rush to change so much all at once results in further craziness sometimes. All anyone is owed from those times is the truth, and that the promises of the Declaration be kept, IMO.

This thread reminded me of the time I was playing a wargame at Gajo games in Utah when I lived there. My friend and I were talking about Napoleon fighting in Egypt. Well this kid came out of nowhere and started to berate me for giving Napoleon any credit because he was a racist, blah blah blah. I politely told him he should not hold historical figures to todays standards as that is what they knew at the time. The kid got super upset and told me we absolutely can and must exactly do that. I just went back to my game and we ignored him until he left after that. You cannont even have a conversation with some people period. There way or the highway and anybody who disagrees with them is evil incarnate. I really feel sorry for people who are that miserable and lost.

iwould object to a nmonument to theSS but the ran and fie soldiers should be remembered

Wehrmacht troops were also guilty of atrocities. The SS were not alone in their crimes.

Fortunately the CSA as bad as they were, were not Nazis. Again, We must remember history, so we don't repeat it. It seems CSA monuments and statues are going to be removed. But they should be placed in a museum type setting with large historical markers saying accurately who, what, where, when, how, etc. We have to recognize and remember our past, the good, the bad and the ugly. We can't change what happened, we have to be very aware of it.
