Princess Elizabeth was an honorary member of the ATS while she took a military vehicle driving and maintenance course but not technically a member of the armed forces until she took on her various roles as colonel in chief of units.

I have read that Princess Elizabeth was an actual member of the ATS, not just an honorary member, as GildasFacit suggests. Can any one give a definitive reference to this. Thanks.
