I like listening to music that goes with my figures, particularly while painting. Viking music for Vikings, French marches for my Foreign Legion, Greek marches and rembetica to go with my World War II Greeks, mehter for the Turks.

Today, I noticed that The Foundry sells orc musicians. Now, orcs never struck me as a particularly musical lot, and I wondered what sort of music orcs would use. Zydeco? Rap? Oom-Pa? Medieval? Head banger? Perhaps something like T. H. White's ants listen to ("Mammy, mammy, mammy" or "Moon, June"). If nothing else, what would you play while painting orcs?

Punk rock seem to fit pretty well. I believe there was a rock album based on The King of Elf lands Daughter the had a troll doing a very punk rock sounding song. Close enough for me.

That said, I have a full horn and drum band (including the drum cart) of the old heritage LOTR orcs. Good for stirring up the troops.

Honestly? Some Cajun speaking Zydeco playing Orcs would be absolutely kick a**!!!!

Motorhead…Orcs love Motorhead.
I think it's because Lemmy looked so Orcish.

You know the guy who drives around playing music so loud your windows vibrate? He's an orc, and what he's playing is orc music.

Zephyr101 Sep 2022 2:25 p.m. PST

No, what you need is discordant, "yes, there is a tune there", music.
Think a middle school band learning their instruments & practicing a song, and you'll about have the sound… evil grin

I hate to be that guy, but the musicians are likely for command stands for Orc units. So 1-2 musicians per unit, doing trumpet charges, reform calls, drums playing marching beat, etc. Maybe some noisy blaring to intimidate enemy.

Anyone remember being put on hold by GW USA? That's Orc music. I even knew some of the Orcs when I was in the regulars.

Corvus Corax had such bad luck with Game of Thrones, it's a shame.

The first pilot of GoT with them got tanked.
The footage with them as minstrels at a festival was not used in the second attempt.
When they were asked if they wanted to appear in the show again, they refused because they were just about to go on tour and they were suspicious of this strange fantasy flic, which was shot disastrously the first time.
Raven, their lead tells about that anecdota at concerts from time to time.
He's still a little pissed off.
Understandably.

I would go with heavy drumming – the Japanese stuff sounds about right

SBminisguy02 Sep 2022 7:45 p.m. PST

Here ya go, from the Dune soundtrack -- sounds appropriate to me, drums and Sardaukar chant!
