In Osprey's Men at Arts Series 185 Russian Infantry Pg 12-13 it states that after Borodino with immediate effect a change to a longer and thinner formation was adopted. There is no mention in the Empire V or R&E rules. Can anyone suggest how this new formation might be shown on the wargames table or are French columns always to have a partial enfilade? |

It's not clear from the text in the Osprey (MAA 185) whether new formations were employed or whether wider / thinner tactical formations that already existed were more widely employed than before. |

Perhaps this refers to attack (or assault) columns which were, roughly, twice the width (and thus half the depth) of a column of manoeuvre. Similar to the Austrian "mass", which was 2 companies wide and 6 companies deep. More maneuverable and solid than an infantry line. |
