I bet it took a lot of canvas to move that ship…

I wish I could see it as it's being towed to Galveston. I think the ideal place to see it would be at the Lynchburg Ferry landing just outside the San Jacinto battlefield; the news article says that the ferry will be closed during she ship's passage.

You can also track her progress with marinetraffic dot com.

The old girl is actually moving a lot faster than people expected.

Livestreaming (sort of) is coming in from Youtube also.

They started the process around 3:30 am this morning and she got underway around 6 am. KHOU was having some fantastic video of her. She's gorgeous heading out to water… Part of me wants to say "There she goes, out to hunt more Japanese…" But instead, thank God, she's peacefully going to drydock in Galveston.

This is the timeline for the movement. She's accompanied by four tugs, a CG cutter, a pollution control ship, a SAR vessel, a law enforcement cruiser, followed by a small passenger boat watching the process and a bunch of folks on the land watching her pass.

Her second 'cruise'. The first was 1988…

That cruise to Todd Shipyards almost shook her apart. It was poorly planned and executed.

Thanks, Murphy. It may seem maudlin, but watching Texas underway brought a little drop of moisture to my eye.

It's okay William. A lot of us have waited a long time for this, and it's a beautiful sight to see the old girl pushing through the waves once again. Lots of us have that eye moisture going on.

Here is some more video footage. Yeah, it's over an hour, you don't have to watch the whole thing.

She just passed by Seawolf Park and is on her way to Galveston, and Copper Shipyard. A lot of honors going her way on this.

They're putting her in the drydock now.
