I'm interested in staging some Roman gladiator pit fights. Does anyone know what the pits looked like? Is this a stone cellar? A small area enclosed by a wooden stockade? Ideas?

Are you talking about the pits from The TV show "Spartacus" in the show they go done stairs to get to it so a stone cellar would be close

Not sure what a gladiator pit fight is. They did not fight in their staging/holding area.

Thanks to both of you. I guess a D&D style structure would be best for these underground combats!

Yes, I would agree, but with a lot more rooms/cells than were in the typical dungeon adventures that I used to play.
