A new Doctor Who board Game called nemesis is coming out.

A board Game with cardboard bits and cards.

It appears to have the new actor on the box.

I'm guessing Warlord games are also planning imminent releases of things.

My guess would be a new figure box. I doubt they will be releasing a new game. That said it may be that they release a new edition, as the original has been out for some time. However I, at least, forecast poor sales of any ultra new tat release, so I'm sceptical of a new edition. But they have had time to do it.

On the other hand it might be really brilliant! Who knows, until it actually appears?

The H Man27 Aug 2022 5:03 p.m. PST

Do you mean the new show, board game or any upcoming Warlord releases?

For the show, I doubt brilliant will feature. They guy who screwed up the franchise is back as producer, from what I hear. And going by the last two doctors and ratings, it would take a miracle. The choice of RTD and doctor actor seems like it set to be more of the same. I know that's about all we have to go on, but they are whoppers.

For the board Game, it may be great or not. If it's Top notch, I'll wait for another franchise version, like Monopoly does.

For whatever WL may have planned, I'm not holding my breath (hense all the jibba jabba on the topic). It's enough to try to get fans to watch the upcoming train wreck, let alone have them buy anything to do with it. People are already split on if the modern tat (especially ultra modern tat) is all hip and up to date, or a complete abomination.

I's say, as far as the new doctor's stuff, WL have already lost.

However, if they pull their finger out and get their act together, they may be able to scratch by. They can, of course do this by releasing more classic figures in a way one can comprehend.

An easy and very cheap way to begin would be to rerelease all their existing classic doctors either individual (best) or in classic only boxed sets (better). This way fans not need to buy modern tat to get classic. They could do the same with the modern tat doctors, for people on the other side of the fence and make a few pennies more. The same with the master. And obviously releasing more classic new products would be an idea also.

Although I did feel a bit sorry for the publishers of this

link

When I flicked through it today – it's full of photos of the last Dr and her companions. Or "out of date" as we can now call it.

The first edition had Peter Capaldi on the cover – and that's now available at half-price.

Did anything change in the game other than the pictures does anyone know?

Ha ha. That Cheers me up.

The perils of licensing, hey.

Is it odd they don't put all the classic doctors on the cover? Or is it just proof they are trying to pull a Lucas/Disney and try to erase the past by hiding what fans actually want to see?

It would seem safer to use a variety of Doctors rather than just the current one.Maybe they do think the fan base are obsessive enough to rebuy it every time there is a regeneration.

The H Man28 Aug 2022 6:00 a.m. PST

Is there a fan base for doing that?

I'd think classic fans would probably aboide it anyway and modern fans are too here today, gone tomorrow.

Are there any fans of this last one? Id think very few.

If there were people obsessive enough, wouldn't they also be buying all the Warlord offerings? There are obviously not too many of them.

Id say its more a licence/BBC thing. They try to push the new shows at the cost of classic fans. The fans know this and Warlord has suffered.

Everything released has to have the new title and actor.

For example, the classic DVDs look very nicely designed with suitable covers and menus that have the right look an feel for the classic series. The Blu-ray releases are anything but, with ugly cgi animated menus and the ultra modern tat logo slapped about. They look horrible, disrespectful.

It's just another example of companies trying to retcon a franchise, trying to shoehorn in things that were just never there, like Jabba in Star Wars.

forrester28 Aug 2022 12:52 p.m. PST

Its well nigh impossible for any company to keep its offerings up to speed when there is a rapidly evolving franchise.
The game cover posted above was out of date in months when the companions changed again.
The Warlord game had Peter Capaldi on the box. Its understandable that they'll promote the current incumbent. That box of course is even more out of date. A much easier task post 1989 when Doctor Who was frozen in time .
Anyone trying to stay ahead of the game is stuck till next year as we have no idea what Number 14 will look like or sound like.

As to new versus old, there is actually more than one fence--I like elements of both classic and post 2005. I won't waste time saying which as its a personal preference but you've got nearly 60 years to pick from.

The H Man28 Aug 2022 3:56 p.m. PST

The 14th has been chosen. He is on the board Game I mention up top. He is yet another dramatic shift from the classic doctors, albeit not as dramatic as the last, just the other one. Now they have done both, hopefully that will be an end of it.

"Woof." That, unfortunately is me next expectation. Inspector Rex in space.

Or, dread to think, someone who you can't figure out who your watching. A modern trend, also a disastrous possibility.

As far as extreme, I think they are the only possibilities, unless they try combos…!

It's obviously all just for headlines and to get us talking about it. That's what modern Dr Who has become.

I think the term is sitting on the fence. It would be interesting to know what you like about the new tat. The bits that are similar to the classic, or the complete contrasts to the classic?

forrester30 Aug 2022 5:23 a.m. PST

Ive just looked up the Nemesis game mentioned above-an interesting twist in that you are playing one of the Doctor's enemies!
However that's not the new Doctor; it's the most recent version of the Master.
As for the new Doctor at present there are no clues as to his costume or how he will be be portrayed. Ive not seen him in anything before though that can be misleading anyway. I doubt there will be much more if anything at least till after Jodie Whittaker's departure. They are trying not to upstage that.

Is there a fan base for doing that?

Some Doctor Who fans are quite obsessive…

The H Man30 Aug 2022 3:30 p.m. PST

I guess I was talking about ultra modern tat fans, if there are any outside the BBC.

Ncuti Gatwa is meant to be the next doctor actor.

I think it's safe to make some assumptions as to how things may go.

Having another crack at a major departure from the pre established with the choice of actor and RTD anywhere near it, I can't see it being sorted out anytime soon.

I think I've said it before, but it really is like National Lampoon (only not as funny), where it ended up being a name anyone could pay a licence fee to slap it above their film title.

In name only is the technical term.
